Small Group Travel in South America

Llamas at Machu Picchu, Peru_282046022There are two primary ways to travel in South America. One is to be independent, travelling with those you know and love, in a private environment. The other is to travel with a group in a more organized environment.

Travelling with a group has a number of advantages. First, everything is arranged in advance with no worries about planning the details. such as accommodation, sightseeing, where to eat, or what to see. Secondly, you usually travel with like-minded people with whom you may well continue a friendship long after the tour has ended. Thirdly, the group tour escort or guide gives so much local knowledge and insight through the course of your tour, and acts as a great at-hand resource for the group.

Traditionally offering private, FIT-type travel, we at Goway have seen the emerging trend of small group touring. In the face of that demand, and adding to our small group tour roster, we have just launched our “Wonders” series. These trips capture all the top sites of the region, but in a more economical group tour environment.

Featuring a maximum of 16 people, these small group itineraries include tours, transfers, transportation, and accommodation – unless otherwise stated. Not only do they offer great value, these itineraries also have set guaranteed departures, making it easier to sell to your clients.

Calling All Singles… to Africa!

Woman in Jacuzzi Overlooking the Masai Mara, KenyaGoway’s AFRICAExperts are offering significant savings for single travellers. “Typically, single travellers may pay up to double the twin share rates for vacations,” commented Moira Smith, AFRICAExpert’s General Manager. We recognize the trend for travellers that prefer to travel alone, and so have negotiated excellent deals, whereby singles pay the twin share rate only on select hotels, lodges and tours. That translates into significant savings.

For example, single travellers on our bestselling 14-Day World in One Country tour in South Africa can save up to $700 if they travel on the last Sunday of the month departure. Similarly on our bestselling East African safaris, the single supplement is waived from January to May and November for the 7-Day Essential Tanzania Safari, and January to June for the 8-Day Essential Kenya Safari and the 14-Day East Africa Safari.

Costa Rica: A Summer Escape Waiting for You!

Arenal Volcano, Costa RicaCosta Rica not only makes for a great destination to escape to in the winter, but the upcoming summer months are a great a time to go as well. Less crowds, no hurricanes, some of the best beaches in the world, as well as a ton of nature and wildlife are all top reasons to travel to Costa Rica in the summer. For those travellers in the Southern U.S., the breeze of the Pacific coast of Costa Rica will provide a good respite from the heat at home. With Goway’s great range of Stay and Pay deals, the Costa Rican summer sun is priced just right.

Add to that the famous Arenal Volcano, Costa Rica’s famous Cloud Forest, as well as time on the beautiful Pacific Coast, our Costa Rica getaway choices make a great summer vacation alternative.

David Dalglish, Goway's Central America Expert

David Dalglish, Goway’s Central America Expert

Want some expert advice on how and why to sell Costa Rica? Hear from David, one of Goway’s many Central American Experts, as he “gives up” some of his tips and tricks on how to sell one of the most popular, affordable, and easy to get to destinations in Central and South America.

Small Geography
You can travel to the vast majority of destinations of interest in Costa Rica from one of two international airports in under 3 hours. It is feasible and really not even that difficult to have breakfast on the Caribbean and dinner on the Pacific, or vice versa.

Because it is small, you can also see plenty in a one-week getaway, such as Arenal, Monteverde, and the beaches of Guanacaste, or Tortuguero, Arenal, and Manuel Antonio.

Costa Rica is the one country in South America where self-drive options are available, and where plenty can be seen.

Flight Flexibility
With 2 international gateways in such a small country, flexibility is a guarantee when creating an FIT itinerary, with open jaw flights using San Jose (SJO) and Liberia (LIR) as a popular travel option.

Flights options from all major gateways are great, with many short, direct flights.

English is spoken widely, more so in Costa Rica per capita than any other Central American country. This makes for a seamless traveller experience.

Local Guides
The quality level of local guiding in Costa Rica is superb. Tour guides in Costa Rica take pride in their work and have received 4+ years of formal training, making them very professional and knowledgeable individuals. As such, value for money is huge with top-notch guides, with excursions showing off the best of Costa Rica.

Costa Rica offers their visitors plenty to do. It is like a real-life theme park of fun activities, set in beautiful nature. From beaches and mountains, to rafting and relaxing at a spa, there is something for everyone, including anyone looking for wildlife and birds.

Safari floating

Costa Rica is considered a year-round destination. The wet season, from May to October, is amazing and lush. It is warm everywhere, and seeing a tropical rainforest in an afternoon storm is impressive!

Diversity is the word here, as the local cuisine is simple but healthy and delicious. Fresh fish, abundance of fresh fruits, and plenty of juices are just some of the many choices.

From basic and affordable, to high-end luxury, to all-inclusive resorts, any budget or style can be accommodated.

One last tip for agents selling Costa Rica… don’t mention the creepy crawlies.

The Best Value Long Stay Escapes Downunder

Mature couple walking on beach_87739291In the 1990s, Goway introduced the concept of sending North American Snowbirds to Australia. Twenty years later, the program is still as popular as ever and the value cannot be beat! In addition to the original program in Australia, namely the Sunshine State of Queensland, as well as New Zealand, we have expanded the concept to now include the beautiful Cook Islands.

Relax in the Cook Islands

Bay of Plenty, New Zealand

Available for 1, 2, or 3 month stays, a Goway Snowbird vacation includes arrival transfers, welcome grocery pack on the Sunshine Coast and in New Zealand, toll-free assistance to Goway’s local office, and accommodation for 28, 56, or 84 nights in a self-catering apartment, located just a short walk to the beach.

Cook Islands long stays feature similar inclusions but also include daily tropical breakfast, early check in on arrival, and late check out on departure – plus bonus offers such as genuine black pearl pendants, car and scooter rental, or restaurant credits depending on the resort.

One of the most popular destinations for our long stay program is the Sunshine Coast. It offers a laid back environment that is relaxed in atmosphere but at the same time has a vibrant feel with numerous activities to explore – allowing clients to be active if that is what they seek, or simply relax and enjoy the sun, the surf, and the sand.

Anywhere called “the Sunshine Coast” sounds appealing to winter-weary northerners. It suggests, as the name implies, lots of sunshine, but do the weather stats back it up? Well it would appear that they do! The average high January through March is 28C/82F and average low is 20C/68F while the relative humidity sits at about 60%. The sun rises about 5am and sets around 7pm, so days are a decent length.

Shopping around the Sunshine Coast

Now that we have established our guarantee that you will not be shoveling snow, what is there to do? The list of activities will not disappoint your clients. They range from golf (more than 26 courses within easy driving range), 70kms/43mi worth of beautiful unspoiled beaches, 52 bushwalking treks and trails (varying degrees of difficulty), local markets with fresh local produce, wineries (10 cellars within the region), pubs, the Australia Zoo, and scenic drives which include three separate designated routes.

These great value packages start at just $3749CAD/$2899USD per person, twin share, based on a 31-day winter escape in February or March, 2016. They include round-trip airfare from Vancouver (CAD) or Los Angeles (USD)*, all taxes, comprehensive insurance (there is no age limit and pre-existing conditions are covered when paid at time of booking), 28 nights’ accommodation in a fully self-contained 1 bedroom apartment, arrival welcome grocery kit (Sunshine Coast long stay and Bay of Plenty long stay), exclusive free discount coupons, round trip airport transfers, 24/7 contact and comfort support from Goway’s own office in Sydney, along with a free option to stop in Fiji.

Travel to Central and South America With Ease

South America Map and PassportsEver wonder which citizens have the most freedom of travel and face minimum visa restrictions? Ever wonder who has the least?

Luckily for North Americans, there are very few visa issues when travelling to Central and South America specifically. Planning that dream getaway to Latin America is easy with our Goway experts.

According to the 2014 Henley & Partners Visa Restrictions Index, a global ranking of countries based on the freedom of travel for their citizens, showed that Canada and the United States came up at the top of the list of nationalities that have ease of international travel.

The United States, Finland, Sweden, UK, and Germany topped the index, with a score of 174 – indicating the number of countries and territories their nationals can visit without a visa. The higher the number, the better! Denmark and Canada came in at second place with a score of 173, according to the global ranking that was produced in collaboration with IATA.

In case you are wondering who ranks at the bottom of this list, that would be Afghanistan with 94 points, Iraq with 93 points, and tied for last place – Somalia and Pakistan with 92 points.

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

All in all, Central and South America is an easy place to travel to from North America. Brazil is the only country that requires a visa from both US and Canada, whereas Bolivia requires a visa only from Americans. Although no visa is required for US and Canadian travellers to Argentina, they are charged a fee for entry, which is valid for the life of your passport.

Heading “south” means limited time zone and jet lag concerns, and add to that, very few visa requirements and relatively short travel times. There is really no excuse not to push Central and South America to the top of the travel list!

So next time you plan to travel with Goway to Central and South America – or even the Polar regions, where visas really aren’t needed, just remember how lucky you are to be living in North America and the comparative ease in which you can travel.

Machu Picchu Peru - Children

Local children in Machu Picchu

With no visas required, and now offering 20% off, why not look at a trip to Peru with our 9-Day Wonders of Peru incl. Airfare. Home to the world famous Machu Picchu and immersed in Incan civilization, Peru is easy, affordable, and breathtaking.
This special offer is valid till 12pm June 30th.
